You Got to Love These Guys |
The Idaho State Tax Commission has four members. With the state facing a huge deficit, and state workers having their wages cut, the foursome decided to reduce their own salaries in solidarity. Royce Chigbrow, David Langhorst, Sam Haws and Tom Katsilometes took 292 hours of furlough in recent months and were willing to forego their salaries. The commissioners had acted in support of the 400 commission employees who were forced to take 27,000 hours of unpaid leave saving the state more than $670,000. The commissioners were not subject to the general furloughs. The problem is that Idaho law prohibits the commissioners from voluntarily reducing their pay. So the commissioners ended up being forced to take their pay. Still, you got to admire these guys. They were willing to put their money where their mouths were.
Wow, it must be awful for a whole state to suffer a hug deficit. Send in Oprah!

I'm sorry. I wonder if the Idaho State Tax Commission realized they couldn't
reduce their salaries before they offered. Just call me cynical.
